Former Irish minister attends Culture Vannin event
A Tynwald Day VIP guest has spoken of the importance of government funding for indigenous culture, language and the arts.
Eamon O’Cuiv is a member of the Irish Parliament, the Dail and a former Minister for the Arts.
He joined President of Tynwald Steve Rodan for the official opening of Culture Vannin's new centre at St John’s yesterday.
Mr O’Cuiv is the grandson of a former President of Ireland, Eamon de Valera.
The Taoiseach's funding initiative in the 1940s ensured priceless recordings were made of the few surviving native Manx speakers.
His descendant yesterday emphasised the importance of preserving culture, from all the Celtic nations, for future generations:
