Tynwald returns from summer recess

October sitting gets underway this morning

The October sitting of Tynwald gets underway this morning with the Manx Utilities five-year pricing strategy, State of the Nation address and a £1.2m scheme to help farmers among the items to be discussed.

It's the first time the court has sat since July. Following the end of the summer recess, Tynwald will consider a wide range of topics at this month's sitting.

The first report into the investigation into child abuse at Knottfield is among a number of reports being laid before the court.

Howard Quayle will deliver his State of the Nation address, while Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan is due to speak about the Steam Packet Company, and Policy and Reform Minister Chris Thomas will make statements on the Living Wage and modernising the rates system.

Members will be asked to approve a £1.2m fund to help farmers affected by this summer's drought, to appoint three new members to a committee looking into the Media Development Fund and to give the go-ahead to a new pointing system for public sector housing.

25 questions for oral answer will be considered this morning, including queries about the TT access road, awareness of the pension age and the recent introduction of the Government-run airport transfer bus service. The sitting gets underway at 10.30am
