Arrested for being drunk in public on day he arrived
A UK man has been handed a conditional discharge after being arrested for begging for money on Douglas Promenade.
Ryan Wesley Dean, of no fixed abode, appeared at Douglas Courthouse.
He pleaded guilty to being drunk in public on Central Promenade on 4 April.
Dean had approached members of the public on the day he arrived on the Island leading them to call police.
Officers arrived and told him to leave the area, taking him to a homelessness charity when he admitted he had nowhere to go.
But hours later officers found him sleeping in a shop doorway, on Central Promenade, with empty cans around him and he was arrested when officers realised he was drunk.
Dean's advocate said he'd spent six years travelling around Britain sleeping rough and had decided to visit the Island after seeing family in Lancaster.
Dean was handed a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs – High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also advised him leave the Isle of Man as soon as he could.
