Uncertainty over summer job prospects

Could teenagers in the Isle of Man looking for work this summer be in for a much tougher time than in previous years?

If the situation here is similar to that predicted in the United Kingdom then the answer may be yes.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the UK says almost half of firms surveyed aren't planning to recruit school leavers, while the Prince's Trust suggests out of work young people cost £23 million a week in benefits.

Acting manager of the Isle of Man Careers Service Jenny Hopper says it's hard to tell yet, but she is encouraging teenagers here to have a back-up plan:
