A call will be made this afternoon for a full audit of the functioning of health and safety committees across the Manx Government.
It will come from the employees' side at a full meeting of Whitley Council, and it follows union concerns over the safety of Department of Transport staff working on open roads, during the TT period, and at other times of the year.
Regional industrial organiser for the union Unite, Mick Hewer, is surprised how many of his members have come close to being hurt. And he's looking for comprehensive insurance cover for all staff, against all kinds of liability:
DoT staff are working as normal, but union officials have said they shouldn't be forced to carry out work on public roads until all the current health and safety, and insurance, issues have been resolved.
