42-year-old thanked officers who helped him after he was found asleep in a bus shelter
A Union Mills man asked to be banned from buying alcohol for three months after being found sleeping in a bus shelter on Peel Road in Douglas.
Forty-two-year-old Darryl James Russell Fox pleaded guilty to being drunk in a public place after police found him asleep at a bus stop on Thursday 21 December.
He admitted he'd been drinking in a pub earlier that evening, and asked the court to give him a licensing act ban to allow him to tackle his issues with alcohol.
His advocate told the court Fox was dealing with some issues in his life, and that he has referred himself to the drug and alcohol team for support.
High Bailiff James Brooks described Fox as a 'model defendant', praising him for entering a guilty plea at the first opportunity and for accepting and understanding why he's in this position.
Mr Brooks said he wouldn't normally issue a ban for this level of offence, but accepts that it will help Fox.
As a result, Fox is banned from entering licensed premises or purchasing alcohol for three months - he was also fined £50 and ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
Fox also passed on his thanks to the officers who found him for looking after him.
