A number of services 'at risk' or cancelled over the past few weeks

A union representing bus drivers on the Isle of Man is questioning the reasons being given by Bus Vannin for continued disruption.

A number of services have been put 'at risk' or cancelled over the past few weeks.

Bus Vannin says it's down to 'continued high levels of staff absence', however, Unite the Union says that's not the picture being reported to it.

It claims drivers are working rest days and extra shifts to keep services going, while others are being taken off the road for training and other duties.

It argues to simply call it 'staff absence' doesn't reflect what's actually happening.

The union's now asking whether there are enough drivers available to run the timetable.

Earlier this year, bus drivers took part in a series of strike action over pay and working conditions.

The long-running dispute was eventually settled with a deal Unite described as 'securing an improved pay position for drivers and providing a basis for stability going forward.'

The Department of Infrastructure, which operates Bus Vannin, has been approached for comment.
