Unions want more involvement in cuts

The top union official in the Isle of Man is appealing to government to allow staffing bodies a more active role in the implementation of the inevitable cuts, as the Island attempts to balance its budgetary books.

Following yesterday's message from the chief minister, Trades Council president Angela Moffatt says the unions are all aware of the seriousness of the situation.

However, they are also uncomfortable with the lack of consultation, and the reactive stance they are having to take, as they wait to see what happens.

She says the unions tend to be more positive when they are more involved:
