Electricity bills and water rates in the Island have gone up by 2.2 per cent today (Wednesday).
The above inflation hike was announced last month with the Manx Utilities Authority citing the cost of servicing the merged body's £500 million debt to government as one of the factors behind the rise.
It means an increase of about £24 a year for the average electricity customer– around £2 extra a month – and £12 more annually for water – an additional £1 each month.
The hike is slightly lower than last year’s rise of two and a half per cent which followed a three-year freeze.
A 61.29 pence in the pound sewerage rate is replacing the widely criticised flat rate toilet tax.
