Van driver rescued from Garey Ford

Police and fire crews bring him to safety

A van and its driver were rescued by emergency services after being swept down river at the Garey Ford yesterday evening (Sat).

Officers from the Northern Neighbourhood Policing Team were the first on the scene - Ramsey Fire crews were dispatched, as officers were unable to reach him.

They used specialist equipment to enter the water and make the rescue in what police describe as 'very dangerous conditions', in a fast-flowing and deep river.

The NNPT have issued a warning to the public on social media saying people should refrain from attempting rescues themselves.

They ask that people drive safely when weather warnings are issued.
