Van trip makes it to Turkey camp

Islanders meet refugees near Syria

Three pals from the Island are homeward bound after an 'overwhelming' road trip to one of the world's most desolate areas.

Jim Hunter, Ian Pert, and Ronnie Russell braved hostile conditions to visit a refugee camp 20 miles north of the Syrian border in Turkey.

As well as delivering a vanload of goods to children and adults there, they visited a temporary school, and met with local aid co-ordinators.

The trip, inspired by those undertaken by TT legend Joey Dunlop, has now beaten its £3,000 fundraising target.

Jim shared a touching message for those who'd donated from camp leader Tamer Altaiar:

'Dear friend Jim Hunter,

I am so proud of you and your team. You guys left your country, home, friends, family and work to join us here on the ground next to [the] border... To support those who lost everything in this brutal war.

Together, brother, we try to make [the] world [a] better place.

I really appreciate your kindness efforts, and big thanks to everyone who made donations to support us. Kind regard.'
