Vigil in condemnation of Peshawar killings

The Island's Pakistani community is organising a vigil this weekend as a protest at the killing of children by the Taliban at Peshawar.

There's an open invitation to everyone on the Island to attend the event on Sunday.

The vigil will centre around a statement issued by organisers,  which condemns, on behalf of the residents of the Isle of Man, the cowardly attacks against innocent civilians in a school, in which more than 140 people were killed, 122 of them children.

A candlelit vigil will be held in the Cowell suite of the Sefton Hotel on Sunday from 5 - 5.30pm.

Organiser Ali Ansari says the event aims to highlight and condemn attacks on innocent human beings around the world.

He's inviting local people to pay respects and join hands in saying "that we will not remain silent but condemn such atrocities".

It's understood a number of Pakistani Manx residents have family in Peshawar who are affected by the massacre.
