Villagers to discuss land swap plan

A meeting to discuss a series of proposed changes at Douglas Road corner in Kirk Michael is being held in the village tonight (Monday).

On the agenda is a controversial land swap involving school grounds, a new housing development and potential alterations to a landmark point on the TT course.

Michael MHK David Cannan who has called the meeting, is urging local people to have a say.

Developer Dandara has declined to send a representative to the meeting to explain its position and take questions.

Instead, a written summary of its case will be handed to all those who attend.

Dandara is still negotiating with the Department of Education and Children over a swap of land at Michael School, for an entrance to its new housing estate. It says the school would gain more than it would lose.

That entrance would include a roundabout at Douglas Road corner on the TT course, something race organisers are being consulted on.

Dandara says it can't put any drawings on display as the land swap deal hasn't been signed. But the company has promised to do so when plans are finalised.

A lively discussion is expected at the meeting, which is being addressed by chairman of Michael Commissioners Steve Hamer.
