Voter apathy needs tackling, says councillor

 

The new member for Athol Ward on Douglas Council says there was a degree of apathy among some voters.

 

Elizabeth Quirk won the by-election with 289 votes compared to Thomas Gelling's 132, but turnout was just 11 per cent.

 

Mrs Quirk, who is making a return to local politics after leaving the council some time ago, says she's not certain why people are so reluctant to get out and vote:
