Warning from Ramsey Bakery over UK competition

 

The head of Ramsey Bakery says unless consumers, politicians and retailers work together, the Island’s food producers face a bleak future.

Jim Duncan was speaking after the closure of the two main bakeries in the Channel Islands after they struggled to compete with imported bread sold by UK supermarket chains.

Mr Duncan says over the past decade, his business has laid off a third of its workforce and now produces a million fewer loaves each year.

And he says the government needs to talk to those importing bread to help local businesses:
