Waste disposal charges set to rise

Rate rises are in the offing for Isle of Man residents, when a sharp rise in waste disposal charges is imposed on local authorities next year.

It's emerged the Infrastructure minister has approved a 14 per cent increase in charges for disposal at the incinerator.

The cost is set to go up from £30.74 to £35 a tonne, from next April.

Clerk to Lonan Commissioners Peter Hill says his board will have to find an extra £2,000 a year.

He says the increase will be passed onto ratepayers but will hit the lowest paid the hardest:
