Callister pens 'open letter' to Department of Infrastructure
An Onchan MHK says a new consultation into the Island's waste strategy principles lacks information.
Rob Callister has written an open letter to the Department of Infrastructure, criticising what he describes as a 'lack of engagement' with local authorities on the matter.
Government says the responses will be used to 'determine an updated Isle of Man Waste Strategy for 2025 to 2035 that is reliable, economical, environmentally acceptable and sustainable'.
But Mr Callister says, currently, it's difficult for the public to make an informed decision:
The Department of Infrastructure says all local authorities were sent a link and invited to take part in the consultation once it had been published.
A spokesperson told Manx Radio:
"The Department thanks Mr Callister for his positive contribution and for promoting the consultation among his constituents.
"The creation of a Waste Strategy is a key priority within the Island Plan - it’s therefore important that feedback is received from all corners of our community and pleasing that more than 370 consultation responses have been received so far.
"Anyone wishing to take part in the process, which runs until Monday 30 September, should visit consult.gov.im. Paper copies are also available to pick up from Waste Management Unit, 2nd Floor, Markwell House, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM1 2RZ.
"Help is available for those who require an accessible version, or to get support reading and responding to the consultation, by calling 639770."
