We haven't blocked levy scheme, vows DHSS Minister

The Health Minister has defended his department against claims it’s trying to block a scheme designed to allay concerns over the ending of the Reciprocal Health Agreement.

Doubt has been cast upon whether government ministers will support plans, by Onchan MHK Peter Karran, to introduce a travel levy to cover medical insurance.

The funds raised would be used to purchase blanket medical insurance at a cost of £1.70 per trip.

However, Eddie Teare says – despite coming forward with his own safety-net scheme for those who can't get insurance later this month – Mr Karran’s bill always had top priority for government draftsmen.
