Weather update, including road closures (12 noon)

Police say conditions are improving in some parts of the Island, but people should still stay at home today after heavy snow has made driving conditions extremely treacherous.

All the Island's schools are closed including King William's College, the Buchan School and the Isle of Man College for what would have been the first day of the new term.

Flights to Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester are delayed after the United Kingdom airports closed, there are no mail deliveries, no bin collections and both the northern and eastern civic amenity sites are shut.

However, conditions are improving and police say anybody who has abandoned a vehicle between Ramsey and Laxey should now retrieve them as roads are steadily clearing of snow

Roads officially closed at 12 noon were the Mountain Road, the Kewaigue Road, Brandywell, West Baldwin, Druidale, Injebreck, Ballig Bridge (St. John's) to Douglas Road (Kirk Michael), Prospect Hill in Douglas, Johnny Watterson's Lane to Tromode Road, Alexander Road in Douglas and Minorca Hill, Laxey.

Richmond Hill was officially declared 'passable with care' shortly after midday.
