Wedding party guidelines are 'intrusive'

A member of the House of Keys says the Isle of Man is suffering from an overdose of the nanny state in the run-up to next month's Royal Wedding.

East Douglas MHK Chris Robertshaw is criticising government guidelines from the Department of Infrastructure, which tell people how to run a street party.

The document includes advice to use paper plates to avoid washing up, a list of authorities which must be informed, and limits on the number of people who can attend street parties.

Mr Robertshaw says the guidelines are over-prescriptive and intrusive (play audio file):

Prince William is marrying Kate Middleton on April 29, which is a bank holiday in the Isle of Man.
