Initiative hopes to 'raise profile of passenger spending'
A new cruise promotion has been launched by government in an effort to measure the economic value of passengers who come ashore by ship.
Visit Isle of Man is behind the 'Welcome Incentive Scheme' which encourages local retailers to give offers and discounts to those touring the Island.
It's hoped this will also help track the secondary spend of those visiting.
Cruise Development at the department of tourism have had no formal method of accurately monitoring this previously, but say the unseen spending is 'quite significant'.
Twelve retailers are already believed to have signed up to the scheme, in what is set to be a record year for Cruise passengers calling to the Island.
Peter Bashforth is with Visit Isle of Man.
