Site says it has designated skip for discarded material

The Western Civic Amenity Site says it will now be taking plasterboard without insulation to be recycled.

In a statement on Facebook, it says changes have been made due to recent updates to landfill management concerning the disposal of certain building materials.

The site says previously plasterboard and insulation were mixed and disposed of at Wrights Pit North but these materials now need to be separated.

Staff will be assisting and supervising people who are depositing these materials, but the site does not have capacity to accept wet or insulated plasterboard.
In adds that due to increased restrictions with the building waste acceptance criteria, the site policy for these materials has been updated, this includes:
  • Inert – Soil, ceramics, tiles, plaster, mortar and cement
  • Plasterboard – Plasterboard MUST be dry and free from contaminants like wood, tiles or insulations
  • Insulations – Rockwool, fibreglass and insulations similar to “Kingspan”
  • Rubble – Brick, rubble, stone and hardcore

The WCAS board says it has purchased a covered skip specifically for the storage of plasterboard.
