Willaston Church says final farewell

The bells of a Douglas church will ring for the last time this afternoon (Sun 18).

Willaston Methodist Church was built with the estate in 1960, but dwindling numbers has made its running too much of a burden for the tiny congregation.

The building will still be open for the community to use, but it will no longer be a place of worship.

Reverend David Shirtliff says, for now, it's just not feasible to keep the church going.

The final service will start at 3pm.
