Woman drove to shop to buy alcohol after drinking a litre of vodka

57-year-old pleads guilty to drink-driving charge

A woman who drank a litre of vodka with a friend got behind the wheel to go shopping for more, a court's heard.

Fifty-seven-year-old Debbie Kennish of Cronk Elfin in Ramsey appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

She pleaded guilty to one count of drink-driving in Christian Street in Ramsey on 10 July.

Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the court members of the public confronted Kennish and called the police after she drove her Peugeot 206 into the Co-op car park at speed at around 8pm.

The hearing was told Kennish went inside the shop and tried to buy vodka but staff refused to serve her.

Police arrived and arrested her – later at police headquarters she was found to be more than three times the drink-drive limit and told officers she'd been drinking vodka with a friend.

Magistrates granted legal aid and adjourned for pre-sentencing reports from the probation service.

Kennish was bailed in the sum of £500 with a condition she doesn't drive, and she'll next appear in court on 21 January.
