Work to strengthen schools' mental health offering underway

DESC says wellbeing of children a 'strategic priority'

Work is underway to strengthen the universal offer for mental health in schools on the Isle of Man.

The Department of Education, Sport and Culture says it's building pathways for additional or complex support where children and young people require it.

It comes after local campaigner Karl Staniford called for the introduction of compulsory wellbeing lessons in Manx schools.

In a statement issued to Manx Radio the department confirmed the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people is a strategic priority.

Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse is set to quiz the education minister on her department's policy in the House of Keys next week.
