'Worryingly high' number of cars still on the roads

Police reiterate message to avoid non-essential travel

The Island's police are reiterating the message to avoid all non-essential journeys after stopping a number of vehicles.

The Isle of Man Constabulary says the amount of people continuing to take to the roads was 'worryingly high', including those taking a long drive home and travelling away from their home town for a walk.

It insists officers will only enforce restrictions as a last resort, preferring to engage, explain and encourage the public to follow the government's coronavirus lockdown measures.

It's hoped having fewer cars on the roads will reduce the chance of an accident that would tie up the emergency services' resources.
