Yet another twist in the Rex tale

Case escalates - High Court date for Friday

It would appear the case of Rex the dog isn't quite finished, after all.

The canine was seized by authorities on the Island more than a year and a half ago, over suspicions he could be a banned breed.

On the first of this month, Manx Radio reported a 'bittersweet' verdict for his supporters.

Found to have 53% of the characteristics of a pit-bull-type breed, the Essex magistrates' court declared him 'exempt' - meaning Rex poses no danger, but would not be allowed to return to his owner on the Isle of Man.

Now, the charity which looks after Rex - Living Hope Rescue - is appealing that decision.

After a series of court dates, the case will now be presented to the High Court this Friday (19) by dog law specialists Parry and Welch solicitors, in an attempt to allow Rex to return home.

The rescue charity has needed to raise £755 by Friday in order for that to happen.

Rex and his keeper, Nicola Brooks-Belcher, will be appearing on Sky News at 4:30 this afternoon to discuss the case, and dangerous dogs legislation in general.
