'Auld firm' at the top

The traditional powerhouses in Manx football lead the early charge in the Sure Mobile Premier League.

Peel and Rushen are the top two after six games.

Peel ended Gymns’ unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 victory at Douglas Road, courtesy of an own goal and a Johnny Myers penalty.

Meanwhile, Rushen secured an impressive 3-0 win at Old Boys to stay just behind them on goal difference.

Aaron Hawley, Tom Craine and Josh Kelly were the marksmen as Rushen impressed.

St Mary's saw off battling Union Mills 5-2 at the Bowl to retain their own fine start.

Martin Reilly set them on their way before a Steve Glover double all but sealed the match by the break.

Liam Cowin and Frank Jones added second half goals with Mike Shimmin and Chris Wilson netting for the visitors.

Laxey sealed their third victory of the season with a 3-0 win at Corinthians – Nigel Beattie, Jon Callow and Ashley Webster the scorers.

A double from Alex Crawley and one apiece from Mike Edge, Jamie Foy and PJ Martin gave newly promoted Castletown some cheer as they ran out 5-2 winners over Michael at the Stadium.

The sides shared four goals in the first half but Town turned up the heat after the interval to leave Michael bottom and pointless.

It was a similar story at Ballacloan as Ramsey emerged 4-2 winners over St John's.

Steve Cleator, Chris Halsall, Liam Parker, Paul Rowley sealed the points for the home side after it was 2-2 at the break.

Substitute Mark Wolfenden netted one of the St John’s goals.
