'World beating' Olympic stamps unveiled

Mark Cavendish is in contention for Britain's first gold medal of next summer's London Olympics, and Isle of Man Post is determined to achieve its own Olympic first.

A set of seven stamps is being issued to celebrate the sporting extravaganza, and they are due to go on sale at the post office in Regent Street at one minute past midnight on January 1st.

They have been produced by leading fashion designer Sir Paul Smith who says he wanted to make them 'positive and colourful, with a strong graphic style'.

Dot Tilbury from the Philatelic Bureau believes it's a world class production (listen to audio file below):

The Post Office is confident the launch, one minute into January 1, will ensure the Isle of Man is the first country in the world to issue an Olympic-themed set of stamps in the year of the London games.
