Anticipation mounting as TT 2019 gets underway

Qualifying begins with first bikes scheduled to get away at 6.20pm

The excitement is building ahead of the first action of TT 2019 this evening.

Roads around the Mountain Course begin to close at 4.45pm from Barrule Park in Ramsey, and they'll re-open no later than 9.30pm.

There's a star-studded cast preparing to battle it out for glory on the Isle of Man this year.

The most iconic event in the international road racing calendar is back to provide two weeks of entertainment, drama and a new chapter in the history of the Isle of Man TT.

Tonight sees the newcomers' get out for what will be their first taste of the famous 37.73 mile course as they undertake a speed-controlled lap.

A wealth of talent in the paddock includes the likes of 2018 Senior TT winner Peter Hickman, five-in-a-week winner Ian Hutchinson, Manx favourite Conor Cummins and 18-time winner Michael Dunlop.

John McGuinness makes his return too, as he prepares to add to his tally of 23 victories - with Joey Dunlop's record of 26 wins firmly within his reach.
