Island boxer's title fight last weekend was called off at short notice

A fundraising campaign has been launched to help Isle of Man professional boxer, Jade Burden get another shot a much-wanted title fight.

The Island fighter had been due to face Katie Smith for the Commonwealth Silver Super Featherweight title last Saturday (11 April), however the showdown was called off less than 72 hours before it was due to take place.

At the time of the bout being cancelled, Burden herself took to social media to say she was 'absolutely heartbroken' the event couldn't take place, adding 'this isn't just a hobby for me, this is my livelihood.'

Now, Jade's sister, Steph has set up a fundraiser aiming to generate £6,000 to allow the fight to go ahead at a later date.

She says the funds would 'go directly towards paying her opponent and covering sanctioning fees for the Commonwealth Silver title.'

As of this afternoon (14 April) more than £3,000 has been raised so far.
