Mark Cavendish finished stage one of the Tour de France in the peloton, some two minutes behind the leaders.
It was won by Alejandro Valverde with David Millar the top British rider in 11th.
Yesterday (Saturday) wasn't one of the stages the Laxey rider had targeted for a victory, due to the 2km climb to the finish line.
Today's second stage (Sunday) covers the 164km from Auray to Saint-Brieuc and gives Cavendish and his sprint rivals the first real chance of grabbing a win.
