Colby spring cup upset on Athletic

Moonlighters dance into quarters

Division Two leaders Colby produced the performance of the day in the ECAP FA Cup first round.

The southerners knocked out Premier League Douglas Athletic in blustery conditions at Station Fields thanks to an 87th minute winner from Luke Roberts.

He took advantage of a defence error to smash the ball into the back of the net.

Another second tier team to go well were Ayre who gave champions St. Mary's a scare.

St. Mary's were looking comfortable at half-time thanks to goals from Jack McVey and Josh Kelly.

However, a Dean Tate penalty for the home side led to a nervous second period with the game only settled with the last kick as Craig Murphy scored to give Saints a 3-1 victory.

Holders Peel were pressed by Onchan before taking the game away in the second half with two goals from Dan Simpson and one from Jack Elliot on his debut helping the westerners to a 6-2 win.

Rushen beat a battling Foxdale 3-0 at Billygoat Park thanks to goals from Greg Norris (2) and Stephen Riding.

And Ramsey beat Old Boys 2-1 at Ballacloan Stadium thanks to two penalties from Chris Duggan.

Douglas Royal and St. Georges are through to the next round without playing as Malew and Pulrose couldn't field teams.

The draw for the quarter-finals was made on Saturday Sport Classified:-

Peel v St. Mary's

St. George's v Ramsey

Rushen v Douglas Royal

Colby v Laxey/Corinthians/Ramsey Youth Centre
