Contest confirmed in western constituency

A second candidate has announced his intention to stand in Peel in the general election later this year.

Raymond Harmer was chairman of the town's commissioners for the municipal year 2010 to 2011, and is currently lead member for finance and on the committees for regeneration and the Peel Heritage Trust.

He wants Peel to play a key role in the affairs of the Isle of Man and would like to see the town return two MHKs to reflect its size and future growth.

Mr Harmer also wants to reverse what he calls 'the United Kingdom's seizure' under the VAT revenue sharing agreement, and tackle the public service pension deficit.

Mr Harmer, who lives in Peel, got an engineering degree from the University of Cambridge and has worked in the Isle of Man's finance sector since 1994.

He will be holding informal sessions in the Corrin Hall to meet members of the public and discuss their concerns.

The other person who has declared in Peel is Mr Harmer's fellow commissioner Rodger Gimbert.
