Corinthians in pole position after seven-goal thriller

Corinthians have their first victory of 2015.

A Jade Burden strike five minutes from time was enough to secure a 4-3 win over Gymns at Tromode on Sunday.

An inspired comeback from the hosts looked set to earn them a point.

But Burden – who was joined on the scoresheet by Kiera Morgan (two) and an own goal – had the final word to seal all three points and make them favourites for the Warehouse Fitness women’s title.

Lauren Miller and Eleanor Gawne were among the scorers for Gymns who also saw a penalty saved by goalkeeper Elizabeth Stanley.

Peel gained revenge for their recent cup final defeat by thrashing champions Douglas Royal 9-1 - a result that seriously damages the latter's hopes of retaining the title.

Maxine Smalley again led the way with a hat-trick.

Sarah Wignall (two), Natalie Swales, Vanessa Christian, Sarah O’Reilly and Becky Corkish were also on target for the westerners.

The Ballafletcher side, who started with only 10 players and finished with nine, netted via a Rebecca Cole strike.

Old Boys registered their second league win of the season, courtesy of a 9-0 victory over Colby at Station Road.

Leading 4-0 at the break, Ceri Purvis (two), Helen Cooper (two), Maria Coulter (two), Hannah Swan, Amy Beggs-Cairney and Gemma Cairney scored for the Blackberry Lane side.

Colby could only field nine players and the match was played 35 minutes each way.
