Manx side take seven-wicket win over Sweden in Rome

The Isle of Man women's cricket team has claimed its first win at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup qualifiers with a seven-wicket victory over Sweden yesterday (26 May).

On day two of their debut campaign in the Europe Qualifier Division 2, the Manx side needed just 11.3 overs to overhaul Sweden's total of 123-3 having used the full 20 overs.

Once again shining in batting for the Isle of Man was Lucy Barnett who managed 79 runs which included ten 'fours' and two 'sixes' before being caught by Sweden's Eman Asim.

Elsewhere, Ellan Cleator and Caitlin Henery amassed batting totals of six and 12 respectively before the game was seen out by five runs managed between Kim Carney and Sam Hassall.

The standout bowling performance came from Sweden's Gunjan Sukla who took five wickets and with a best figure of 5-7.

It was a positive response from the Isle of Man who'd suffered an eight-wicket loss to Italy on the opening day of their campaign on Sunday (25 May).

Looking ahead, the Islanders have a rest day today before a double-header of matches tomorrow (28 May).

First is a tie against Spain from 9.15am before they face Jersey at 2pm - both fixtures will be held at Simar Cricket Ground in Rome.
