Cricket: Island players selected for ICC Europe squads

Manx coach also called up for fixtures against MCC

Two Isle of Man cricket players have been selected to represent Europe in a series of matches against the world-famous Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

Lucy Barnett and Carl Hartmann will be part of the ICC Europe Women's and Men's Under-23 teams respectively for multiple fixtures to take place from next month.

Meanwhile, Isle of Man Cricket coach, Sally Green has been chosen to be part of the women's team's all-female staff.

Announcing the teams, ICC Europe is describing the tours as a 'landmark opportunity' for players and coaches who will gain rare access to 'world class facilities' and 'top tier coaching.'

The Women's Europe XI will play against an MCC side at the iconic Lords Cricket Ground on Friday, 17 April and then face them again at Wormsley Estate on Saturday, 18 April.

The first of those two matches will also form part of Lords' annual Women's Day celebrations.

Elsewhere, the Men's Europe Under-23 XI will face an MCC squad for a four-match T20 series across Thursday, 30 April and Friday, 1 May at the Wormsley Estate.

ICC Europe's Regional Development Manager, Andy Wright, adds: "To have 17 of our 32 Associate Member Nations represented in the two camps and sets of fixtures is a great testament to the growth of the game in Europe. 

"We’re always looking to provide new opportunities for the best young players in the region. 

"Our thanks also must go to the MCC team for the opportunity to compete at such historic grounds against such a wonderful club."
