The extremes of joy and sorrow that go with road racing were put in sharp focus, with news of the death of Manx rider John Crellin in Friday's Senior TT.
The blue riband event ended in tragedy for the 55 year-old privateer, who died in an accident at the Mountain Box on the fifth lap.
The circumstances are not yet clear, but race organisers say no other vehicle was involved.
Mr Crellin was a seasoned competitor on the mountain course, having finished within the top 30 in numerous TTs. He also had 'top ten' success in the Manx Grand Prix in the early 1980s.
On Friday morning, Mr Crellin secured a podium position in the historic clean emissions XGP, taking third place on the Team TORK electric bike.
