Defending champ out of golf championship

Arneil and Lowey beaten at Castletown

It was an evening of upsets at the Isle of Man Men's Golf Championship yesterday.

Defending Isle of Man golf champion Jamie Arneil is out of this year's tournament.

The Mount Murray player was beaten 3 & 2 by former title holder Kevin Moore at Castletown Golf Links.

Last year's finalist and six-time winner Paul Lowey crashed out with a heavy 8 & 7 loss to home favourite Jonathon Corke.

Others through to the quarter-finals on Thursday are Castletown players Gerald Bradley, Andrew Challenor and PJ Vermeullen plus Tom Doyle (Mount Murray), Thomas Fenlon (Douglas) and Daniel Bell (Peel).

Ladies Champion Lynda Simpson is through with a 2 & 1 victory after a tough battle with Gail Corrin.

Last year's runner-up Shirley Price won 7 & 6 against Barbara Monk.

Other players making the last 8 are Wendy Hogan, Kayleigh Dawson, Heather Skinner, Lea Dawson, Emma Noon and Loni Evans.
