Joyous scenes at Port-e-Chee
Douglas secured promotion to North 1 West by the narrowest of margins at Port-e-Chee with a 15-14 victory over De La Salle.
Douglas led 15-0 at half-time after first half tries from Max Singer and Lance Wyllie, plus a penalty and a conversion from Bryn Snellgrove.
A stiff breeze blowing down the pitch gave De La Salle some assistance in the second half and with five minutes to play wing Rob Foxton earned his side a penalty try which was converted by Chris Petrou to leave the deficit at 15-7.
In the closing stages Ryan Worthy powered over for De La Salle and Petrou’s second conversion made it 15-14 to ensure a tense finish for the Douglas faithful.
The nerves held, however, and when Carl Murray kicked the ball dead two minutes later the cheers were a mixture of joy and relief.
