Douglas remain ninth after Altrincham defeat

Rugby results for Saturday, 14 December

Disappointment for Douglas

Douglas lost 27-10 away at Altrincham Kersal in North One West in their final outing of 2019. A defeat for Vale of Lune means that Douglas remain in ninth place however they are now on a three match losing streak and will be desperate to halt it in their next game which is on 4th January when they host struggling Bowdon. James Maddrell got Douglas’ first try today with utility forward Harry Raven picking up the second.

Ramsey round off 2019 with defeat at Ellesmere Port

As predicted Ramsey had a fruitless trip to Ellesmere Port in Lancs/Cheshire 1, losing 49-0. They started the game positively in both the first and second halves before leaking tries at the end. Solid defending kept Ellesmere to a meagre 10-0 lead after twenty minutes but a purple patch at the end of the half aw the teams turn round with Ellesmere leading 29-0. That gradually extended during the second half but with slightly better defending. Ramsey remain seven points adrift at the foot of the league table.

Nomads close in on Shield leaders

PDMS Southern Nomads won their double header against Western Vikings 44-5 at a windy King Williams College. Wing Andy Lean was on top form for Nomads with a hat-trick of tries and he was supported with additional scores coming from Josh Smith, Gareth Watt, Tom Davies, George Callister and Jacob Halstein plus two Mark Young conversions. Josh Hockney went in for Vikings’ only score.

Ramsey stung by Hornets

With Ramsey a little short on personnel, players were exchanged and the game got underway with ten aside. Vagas quickly ran up a lead with tries from Arno Cruywagen (2), Phil Plaatjies (2), Tom Rowley and Ollie Swindlehurst. Cam Findlay, Ben Harding (2) and Dylan Chambers all went in for Ramsey at the other end to leave Vagas 35-20. In the second half Paul Howard, Cam Findlay and Matt Rockwell (2) all struck to make the game safe for Vagas and beyond Ramsey’s reach even when they finished off proceedings with a Rob Keelan hat-trick.
