Douglas thrash New Brighton

Bonus point defeat for Ramsey

A big defeat and emotive language are usually not the best bedfellows, but there can be no other way to describe Douglas’ 61-19 defeat of New Brighton other than as a thrashing.

Cal Randle proved to be New Brighton’s nemesis with a personal haul of five tries.

There were supporting scores from Dom Winrow, Shaun Wyllie, Carl Murray and Lance Wyllie with Luke Hyland adding eight conversions as Douglas sent out a powerful message to the rest of South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One.

Ramsey managed to snatch a bonus point, despite defeat in Division Three.

After an early start for the ‘red eye’ flight, Ramsey struggled to get going on their first ever visit to Newton le Willows and trailed 26-5 at half-time with a solitary try from John F. Watling their only score.

In the second half they managed to pick their game up.

Ali Trace’s try was converted by Dan Bonwick who then went in for a try of his own.

As the game reached its conclusion Dave Keenan sneaked in for a Ramsey try to earn them a try bonus point which could prove important at the business end of the season.

Vagabonds Ladies’ first away trip in Womens NC North One ended in a 14-3 defeat away at Doncaster.

Their only points came from the boot of Sammie Macdonald.

Vagas currently occupy third place in the early standings but this could change with some teams playing tomorrow (Sunday).
