Jamie Coward agonisingly misses out on maiden victory

Michael Dunlop took his tally of TT wins to 19 as he saw off fierce competition from Jamie Coward to win the Bennett's Lightweight race.

1.299 seconds was the narrow margin of victory for the Ballymoney rider, with Coward and Lee Johnston also registering podium finishes.

Dunlop and Coward were neck and neck throughout the two-lap race with very little separating the pair on the Mountain Course throughout.

The Northern Irishman was just shy of the lap record, which he himself set in 2018, as he posted a 122.746mph - three hundredths of a second off the record.

The win marked the 50th for the Dunlop family at the TT.

Kawaski rider Johnston was 24 seconds further behind the top two.

Speaking after being crowned race winner, Dunlop spoke to Isle of Man TT Radio:
