McCanney and Keenan retire due to technical issues

Two Manx riders have been forced to retire from this year's 6DAYS FIM Enduro of Nations in Portugal.

Yesterday morning (13 October), the Great Britain squad confirmed two-time world champion, Jamie McCanney had withdrawn from the international meeting due to a technical issue with his bike.

Just a few hours later, the national team also announced that fellow Island rider, Jack Keenan was also having to pull out of the remainder of the event, also due to a technical problem.

For Great Britain, the frustrations weren't finished there as they also announced yesterday that women's competitor, Nieve Holmes was also ruled out with a technical issue on her machine.

The team has also confirmed that the withdrawals of those riders means they are now out of the running for the team trophy competitions.

Whilst frustrated at being sidelined, in an update on the ACU British ISDE Team social medial channels, McCanney says he'll now focus on supporting his teammates for the rest of the meeting:

Also speaking to the ACU British ISDE Team media, Keenan explained the challenges he faced which led his mechanical issues:

Elsewhere, Great Britain does have seven riders still in contention for individual honours including another Manxman, Jed Etchells who starts day three inside the top-25 in the trophy class.

Elsewhere, a Manx trio of Gary Flowers, Mike Turner and Orry Milward is battling away in the club events

The 2026 6DAYS FIM Enduro of Nations is running until this Saturday (17 October).
