Entries open for Gran Fondo Isle of Man

First time IOM will be part of world series

Entries are now open for the Gran Fondo Isle of Man, which this year, will be part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series for the very first time.

The two-day event is taking place on the 4 and 5 September and give cyclists of all ages and abilities the chance to challenge themselves on closed roads.

Day one will open with an all-new UCI Individual Time Trial that will see cyclists take on the 400m Snaefell Mountain climb on the TT circuit.

Saturday afternoon will play host to the free-to-enter Isle of Man Creamery Minisculo Fondo; a family-friendly event, held over a half-mile circuit in and around Ramsey’s Mooragh Park open to children, families and beginners with participants completing as many laps as they want in an hour’s worth of riding.

Getting action underway on Sunday will be the main Gran Fondo event, where competitors will have the chance to earn the right to represent their country in the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Bosnia and Herzegovina this October.

The 137km parcours features over 1900meters of climbing, as it circumnavigates some of the toughest terrain the Isle of Man has to offer.

Riders will have to overcome gradients of over 25% on the climbs, several technical descents as well as a 2km gravel section as they navigate their way around the closed roads route.

Running concurrently with the Gran Fondo will be the 72km Medio Fondo and the 32km Piccolo Fondo.

The Medio Fondo is for recreational riders who want to test themselves that little bit further, and features one of the Island’s most challenging ascents – as well as one of its very best descents – offering riders the perfect balance of effort and reward.

Aimed at families and beginners, the Piccolo Fondo will wind its way around the flatter farmland of the Island’s northern plains, through a patchwork of tiny villages and church steeples, set amongst the fields and blooming hedgerows.

Entries for all Gran Fondo Isle of Man events are now open, click here to find out more.

Places are limited and participants are urged to enter early to avoid disappointment.
