Both teams also met in competition last season

FC Isle of Man face their second away trip this week today (16 October) when they take on AFC Liverpool in the first round of the Macron Cup.

Both sides met at The Marine Travel Arena in the second round of the competition last season.

On that occasion it was the hosts AFC Liverpool who emerged as 2-0 winners.

This time around, both sides find themselves playing in the same division when it comes to league matters and have already met once so far in the NWCFL Premier Division back on 29 August.

Once again, it was the Merseyside outfit who came out on top with a 5-2 win.

Over the course of the league campaign so far, AFC Liverpool and FC Isle of Man find themselves in contrasting positions.

Whilst AFC Liverpool are challenging for promotion up in third place on 31 points, the Ravens are still fighting to turn around a tough run of results which sees them sit 18th in the table with 18 points separating the two sides currently.

The Manx side have endured two heart-breaking results in their last two outings despite positive performances.

A 93rd minute strike saw them go down 1-0 at home to Padiham last Saturday (8 October) whilst another late goal with six minutes to go away at high-flying West Didsbury & Chorlton on Tuesday night (11 October) saw the Island squad on the end of an agonising 2-1 defeat.

However, FC IoM did enjoy a successful last cup outing on the 24 September with a convincing 3-1 home win over fellow NWCFL Premier Division side Lower Breck.

Elsewhere, AFC Liverpool are continuing their strong and consistent start to the season and come into Sunday's clash on the back of four straight wins, keeping clean sheets in three of those.

This weekend though, the victor of Sunday's contest will progress to the second round of the Macron Cup

AFC Liverpool vs FC Isle of Man takes place The Marine Travel Arena today (16 October), with kick-off at 2pm.
