Flash Harry keeps Nomads on top

Southern Nomads will be very relieved to be top of the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield after weathering something of a storm from a young Ramsey B outfit.

A hat-trick of tries from Nomads’ centre Harry Brereton proved the difference between the two sides with Nomads running out 35-17 winners.

Steve McHugh put Nomads in front early on but Ramsey hit back with tries from Garry Vernon and Rory Nicholson to take the lead.

Brereton’s late first half try kept Nomads ahead at the break though.

In the second half, the defending champions took control.

McHugh and Brereton both picked up their second tries and Brereton added a third for good measure.

Matt Livesey picked up a consolation score for Ramsey.

In the only other Shield game to be played, Douglas B beat bottom side Emerging Nomads 51-10 at Port-e-Chee.

Nomads’ consolation scores came from Dave Edge and Nick Mawby.

Noel Capewell, Richard Melia, Jack Moore, Ben Dutnall and Nick Horsthuis (two) all picked up tries for Douglas.

Adam Haworth added four conversions.
