Traditional curtain raiser tonight (30 August) ahead of new league season

The traditional curtain raiser ahead of the new Manx football season awaits this evening as Ayre United and Rushen United prepare to face off in the Eric Fletcher Charity Shield.

Ayre United took three of the top pieces of silverware during the 2021/22 campaign.

The northern outfit claimed the Canada Life Men's Premier League Title, and also lifted the Dixcart Railway Cup and ECAP FA Cup during the same season.

Meanwhile, Rushen United were Ayre's closest challengers in the premier league title race last season and also went on to secure the Prime Plastering Hospital Cup with a 5-1 win over Corinthians in May.

Tonight's contest comes ahead of the new Manx football season for 2022/23 which gets underway proper on Saturday, 3 September.

Ayre United vs Rushen United in the Eric Fletcher Charity Shield takes place at The Bowl in Douglas this evening (30 August), kicking-off at 6.45pm.
