Former Manx Grand Prix winner George Costain has died.

The Colby racer won the 1954 Senior race and was part of what's known as the first 'Manx Double', after Derek Ennett triumphing in the Junior event two days previously.

He also registered a succession of podium finishes around the Billown circuit and was a familiar face at the 'friendly races' even after retirement.

George's family confirmed he died on Tuesday at the age of 88.

Organisers have paid tribute to him, calling him a long-time Southern 100 stalwart, and have sent their condolences to his family.
