'Foxy's 5k Challenge' aims to motivate local runners during pandemic

Andy Fox prepares weekly training plans to help athletes progress

Local runners of all ages and abilities are being invited to try out a new challenge to improve their 5k.

'Foxy's 5k Challenge' aims to give athletes structure to improve their running, while monitoring their progress.

Manx distance runner and coach, Andy Fox, has prepared the training plan, which will be published each Thursday and include a variety of running sessions and tips.

The results of each monthly challenge will be judged on both time and age-grading, allowing runners to compare results across ages and gender.

Andy Fox spoke to Rhian Evans:

The challenge is for everyone, you don't need to be part of a running club to take part, the idea is simply to "support, motivate and inspire you to kick-start or maintain your fitness levels" during the pandemic.

Where possible, runners are asked to opt for quieter routes and times when doing the sessions and challenges.

All results will be published on the IOM Athletics website and Facebook page, and also feature in IOM Newspapers.
